FAQ
What Buddhist tradition do you follow?
On the site page “The Tradition” you will find all the information. In short, however, our order has its roots in Chan and Amidism (Amithaba Pure Land school).
Both traditions belong to Mahayana Buddhism.
Is it necessary to have a Buddhist altar at home?
Yes and no! An altar with a statuette or possibly consecrated image of Buddha or a Bodhisattva helps us in our practice, becoming an energetic center for our practice and to place offerings. It is not mandatory to have one, after all, we ourselves carry the seed of Buddhahood within us and we can consider our own body as an altar, guided by a Dharma master. In any case, it is advisable to set up an altar, especially at the beginning of our awakening journey.
Is it necessary to take refuge in the Three Jewels to become a Buddhist?
To meditate, it is not necessary to take refuge in the Three Jewels. To become formally Buddhist, however, it is advisable to request the so-called “Taking Refuge” from a fully ordained minister, then respecting the 5 precepts that will be conferred. For any information, you can write to us from the contact page of our website.
Do I have to become or be a vegetarian to be a Buddhist?
If you already follow a vegetarian diet, that's fine. We believe that an ethical diet is important. However, it is not necessary to be vegetarian, we can however try to adopt an ethical and conscious eating style. We choose our food carefully, organic fruit and vegetables for example. If we eat meat, we could force ourselves not to abuse its consumption, choosing however to eat animals or derived products that do not come from intensive farming. In any case, we never eat the meat of an animal killed or chosen by us, for example a lobster chosen at random from an aquarium in a restaurant.
Can your ministers get married or do they remain celibate?
In our tradition, those who are fully ordained can marry or start a family. We do not maintain celibacy or abstinence, but we observe the precept of leading a responsible and correct sexual life, in full respect of one's sexual orientation. For more details, you can write to us to learn more about this topic.
Is every object, article or image in your shop consecrated before being shipped?
Yes, of course. For this reason, we specify that from the date of order to the date of shipment, approximately 8/10 days will pass.
What type of payment do you accept?
We accept bank transfer, Postepay, PayPal or cash on delivery.
Can I speak to one of your ministers on the phone?
The ministers of our order, although very busy, are also available for telephone interviews. On the “Contacts” page you will find the email to contact them. However, we recommend that you write to the email: info@iltempiodelloto.com explaining briefly what you would like to know so that our secretariat can direct you to the most suitable minister to respond to your needs.
How will you use my data if I subscribe to your Mailing List?
In full respect of your privacy, your data will not be disclosed to third parties. By subscribing to the Mailing List you will occasionally receive news about our activities, new items in the shop, new publications of our Dharma notebooks and some food for thought and meditation on the Buddhist path. Your data is safe with us.
